Chapter 529: 528 Miss you
“Ranran, you need to stop hesitating. Have you really been happy without Mo Xiuchen in your life? Life is unpredictable, none of us know what might happen tomorrow, so why not seize the moment and grab the happiness in front of you? Wouldn’t it be wonderful for both of you, and him to be happy?”
Bai Xiaoxiao spoke earnestly, genuinely hoping that Wen Ran would understand.
During those days at the Wen family, she watched Wen Ran mope or force a smile, her heart ached along. When she heard Auntie Li say, “she’s back,” her heart bloomed with joy.
The first thing that crossed her mind was that Wen Ran had made up with Mo Xiuchen.
Wen Ran didn’t respond, guiding her into the living room, helping her to sit on the sofa, and sitting down beside her.
Nanny Zhang brought some fruit and Wen Ran, with a smile, asked Bai Xiaoxiao which one she wanted. Bai Xiaoxiao randomly pointed out a fruit and Wen Ran picked it up: “This is a blood orange, are you sure you want this one?”
Bai Xiaoxiao nodded: “Sure, let’s have that!”
“Done!”
Just as Wen Ran was about to pick up the fruit knife, her phone in the pocket began to vibrate, followed by a melodious ringtone. Bai Xiaoxiao frowned in annoyance. “Is that Mo Xiuchen calling you? How annoying! He must be watching from the office, and as soon as he sees you doing something, he gives you a call.”
“Do you think he has nothing better to do?”
Wen Ran gave her a reproachful look, put down the blood orange, and took out her phone. As expected, the call was from Mo Xiuchen.
Seeing her expression, Bai Xiaoxiao knew she had guessed correctly and immediately grinned playfully.
Wen Ran pretended not to see her suggestive look, or hear her words. Her slender finger pressed the answer button, and she spoke softly, “Hello!”
“Ranran, it’s me!”
The deep magnetic voice familiar to her flowed into her ear. Unconsciously, warmth spread in Wen Ran’s clear eyes, just hearing his voice made her feel a sense of warmth in her heart.
“Aren’t you busy?”
She glanced at Bai Xiaoxiao, who was making faces at her, and her lips curved into a slight smile. Regardless of whether she admitted it or not, hearing Mo Xiuchen’s voice always delighted and warmed her heart.
“I just finished a task and was thinking of you.”
Mo Xiuchen’s voice was gentle and magnetic, filled with an irresistible charm. Even through the phone, he didn’t hide his affection and longing for her, missing her every second they were apart.
Listening to his sweet talk, Wen Ran’s heartbeat skipped a beat uncontrollably. She pressed her lips together, unsure of what to say, and instead chose to say nothing. But her grip on the phone subtly tightened.
There was a moment of silence on the phone, where only their faint breathing could be heard.
After a few seconds, Mo Xiuchen laughed softly on the other end and then asked in a low tone with a hint of dominate undertone, “Ranran, do you miss me?”
Wen Ran’s eyes flickered, dodging his question, she replied, “Xiaoxiao is here. If there’s nothing else, I’m going to hang up.” She missed him, but she wouldn’t say those words to him at this moment.
“Ranran, I’ll come home for lunch with you.”
Not hearing the answer he wanted, Mo Xiuchen felt a pang of disappointment. But quickly comforting himself, knowing Wen Ran was at home waiting for him, he reminded himself to be patient and not to scare her away by being too eager.
“If you’re busy, you don’t have to come back.”
The company was far from home, and Wen Ran didn’t want him running back and forth in his car. Rather than spending time on the road, she thought he might as well take a rest in the office after lunch.
“Alright then!”
After some thought, Mo Xiuchen felt relieved knowing that Bai Xiaoxiao was there and would probably stay for lunch. With her company, Ranran wouldn’t be alone and he could rest easy.
Wen Ran hung up, just about to put away her phone when it started vibrating again.
“Ranran, your phone is ringing non-stop.”
Bai Xiaoxiao had already peeled the orange and was now focused on peeling the white layer inside. While Wen Ran preferred to cut her oranges with a knife, Bai Xiaoxiao liked to strip the skin off by hand. It gave her a sense of achievement.
When her phone rang, she looked over at it then lowered her head back to her task, intent on removing the thin white skin. The scent of the oranges was so tantalising that she couldn’t help but salivate.
Wen Ran looked at the unfamiliar number on the screen, her brows slightly furrowed. She didn’t answer right away. Ever since she picked up Fu Jingyi’s call, she had been wary of unfamiliar numbers.
“Ranran, why aren’t you answering? Who’s calling?”
After a few seconds, hearing the phone still ringing, Bai Xiaoxiao looked at Wen Ran in surprise.
Wen Ran smiled at her, pressed the answer button, and responded calmly, “Hello?”
“Is this Miss Wen Ran?”
It was a strange man’s voice on the other end. Thankfully it wasn’t that nut case, Fu Jingyi, and with that, her heart returned to its place. Her eyes showed a hint of confusion as she replied, “It is. Who is this?”
“Miss Wen, you don’t need to know who I am. I mean no harm. I’m calling to warn you to be careful of Cheng Jia, especially at tonight’s celebration banquet. She will try to seduce your husband.”
At these words, Wen Ran’s eyes shown with surprise. Her voice was incredulous as she asked, “Do you know Cheng Jia?”
He didn’t appear to be lying and had no reason to. For reasons not clearly understood, Wen Ran believed he had called with good intentions to warn her.
“Yes, I do know her, but that’s not important. What’s important is Cheng Jia hasn’t given up on Mo Xiuchen. She’s a very calculating woman. Mo Xiuchen might be clueless about her intentions, but he’s not immune to her traps.”
He sounded sincere. Although Mo Xiuchen was cold and utterly brilliant, he was a gentleman while Cheng Jia was a calculating woman. She had contributed to the company, providing the perfect opportunity to seduce Mo Xiuchen.
Wen Ran hadn’t noticed earlier, but now his voice sounded eerily similar to Mo Xiuchen’s.
“I see. Thank you for your warning.”
Her eyebrows furrowed slightly. She didn’t ask who he was since he had made it clear she didn’t need to know. Checking the number on the phone, she knew she could find out who the number belonged to and where it was from.
“Ranran, who was it?”
Bai Xiaoxiao handed Wen Ran a peeled orange slice and casually asked.
Wen Ran had just ended the call, still holding the phone in her hand. Hearing Xiaoxiao’s question, she shook her head lightly, “I don’t know. Some stranger. A strange man. He told me to watch out for Cheng Jia. She’s never given up on Mo Xiuchen.”
