Chapter 36: 22: Strings of Time, Sounds of Space

This must be four years ago, she sat up, looked at the quilt by her side, the bedspread, and the cute-style stickers on the wall, filled with nostalgia.

Stepping on the clean floor, she walked out of the room. In the living room outside, her father was getting ready for work, while her mother was preparing breakfast for her and her sister.

"Hexia is up early today." Her father raised his eyebrows at her in an attempt to make her laugh, but without success, he waved goodbye and headed off to work.

Her mother placed the warm milk on the table, then took out freshly baked bread, sliced it, and arranged it on plates.

"Hexia, go call your sister down, didn\'t she say she has to go back to school today?"

"Ah, um..." Hexia nodded, but her feet didn\'t move, as she continued to gaze at the serene and gentle woman before her.

"What\'s the matter, Hexia, looking at Mom like that?"

"It\'s nothing, I\'m going to call Sister." Hexia scampered off, suddenly halting her steps by the bathroom, and walked in.

"As expected." Looking at her 16-year-old reflection in the mirror, Hexia felt a pang of sorrow.

It must be a dream, the her from that time couldn\'t possibly look 16 years old, and the family didn\'t notice anything strange either.

She left the bathroom and knocked on her sister\'s door; amidst anticipation and nervousness, she finally heard that incredibly familiar voice, "Come in."

The black-haired, purple-eyed girl had already gotten up, sitting by the window, gazing at the outside scenery where a few clouds drifted across the sky, and a young potted plant sat on the windowsill, its tiny leaves swaying in the breeze.

"Hexia\'s here." She turned around, looking at the girl who\'d entered the room. The two looked startlingly alike, with the exception that the black-haired, purple-eyed girl was more developed, as by this point in time, she was already 18 years old.

"Hexia really did grow more beautiful."

Upon hearing this, the girl froze in her steps.

"Sister?"

"Yes, I\'m here."

"How old do you think I look?" Hexia asked tentatively.

"Around 16-17 years old? Similar to how I was at that age, why?" Temisia tilted her head, and her black hair slid off her shoulder.

"But, Sister, you\'re six years older than me..." Hexia\'s voice trailed off.

"Yes, but my age will always stop at 18, you should know that by now." The girl across from her swept her hair aside by her ear, speaking calmly.

"Why is that, Sister?"

"Why, it\'s hard to explain..." Temisia stood up, approached Hexia, and took hold of her hand.

"Have you studied ancient history, about the affairs of the Third Era?"

"I know roughly some of it." The two sat down on the bed, shoulder to shoulder, back to back.

"During the Third Era, there was a human kingdom, their prince married Queen Titania of the Forest Elf Race, thus integrating the Elves into their own nation and becoming stronger."

"That\'s the legend of the Verdant Empire." Hexia recalled.

"Yes, but that\'s just the surface of history. As witnesses to the marriage, a witch bestowed upon the royal family a treasure as a blessing and protection, the Holy Grail which could create twins if one drank from it."

"With this treasure, every emperor of the Verdant Empire was a twin, their minds in unison, trusting each other, like two inseparable halves, twin siblings reminding each other, fixing flaws, relying on one another, piecing two imperfect fragments together to form a perfect, flawless whole."

"Sister..."

"In fact, we were supposed to be such twins..." Temisia\'s voice was full of emotion.

"But fate played a joke, and the result is that we can\'t form a complete whole.

"However, don\'t worry, Hexia, I\'ve found a solution."

"What is the solution?" Hexia felt a vague disquiet, because she knew what was coming.

"The solution is— we will merge into one again." Temisia turned around, lightly embracing Hexia from behind and clasping their hands together.

At this moment, a strange feeling emerged in Hexia\'s heart. She seemed to be able to sense the heartbeat of the person beside her, the flow of blood, emotions, and even vague thoughts.

(Hexia really is adorable)

The girl turned her head in disbelief, trying to see what Temisia looked like at that moment.

Flowing black hair, eyes like purple pools with stardust moving within, an alluring and bewitching charm that captivated the heart.

"What does merging into one mean?" Hexia turned away, unwilling to gaze into those eyes.

"It means we will complement each other\'s flaws. Hexia, you want to become stronger, right? Sister can make you stronger, help you overcome your timidity and shyness." Temisia held Hexia\'s hand, speaking so gently.

"Is that so..."

"Because we are separated, we are both imperfect, so merging into one again is for the best. Also, with my help, Hexia, you can grow quickly. Sister used to be number one in the entire school, and it was at the school ranked number one for Jade Skirt."

"Hmm..." Hexia lowered her head, indeed, compared to her sister, she felt much weaker.

"It\'s okay, we won\'t be alone any more after this." Temisia leaned down to embrace Hexia.
